A Conversation on…..Hunter’s Medicine
The essence of hunting is about being self-sufficient; especially when you are a lone hunter who is in pursuit of four legged game in the Field.
At Tusk & Antler it is our aim to bring together very specific persons, who are highly qualified and skilled in the practices and theories in their fields. In order to give talks on how the lone hunter can expand their self-sustaining knowledge.
Our talks will be known as a ‘Conversation on….’ and our first talk will be a ‘Conversation on Hunter’s Medicine’. So what is ‘Hunter’s Medicine?’ In our chase for quarry, alone in the Field, we forgot and do not insure against what happens when everything goes wrong medically and we have to look after our selves! We need to dispel the attitude of ‘it won’t happen to me’, because sh*t does happen in real life!! And this ‘conversation on…….’ may be that vital medicine that’ll save your life or limb in the Field!
The‘conversation on……..’ will be given by Mr Steven Barden who is a Lead Consultant for Acute Medicine and Same Day Emergency Care at University Hospitals Sussex. Steven recently attended my two day hunting course and we sparked off conversations on his aspirations to know more about the practical applications of hunting and to consume more venison and my eagerness to learn more about anatomy, disease and emergency medicine.
Steven is a Fellow of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine since 2005, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians since 2008, an Instructor for the Royal College of Surgeons Advanced Trauma Life Support, a Qualified Emergency Medicine Consultant and a clinical associate of NHS Emergency Care improvement Team. Plus Steven has a wide experience in trauma and infectious diseases as well as anatomy, physiology and all pathology. Including resuscitation, anaphylaxis and communicable infection.
Hunter’s Medicine will cover the vital ground needed for the lone hunter, which will be the specific topics on…
- Communications.
- Critical time management.
- Puncture wounds.
- Falls and breaks.
- Use of official and unofficial first aid kit.
- Poisons.
- Infectious diseases from animals.
- Cleaning of clothing & equipment
The day’s conversation will be divided into slide shows, discussions and practicals.
The talk will be held on Saturday 13th September 2025.
Due to the capacity of the venue, we only have 14 places available for this Conversation.
